Happy Monday! I wanted to share with you all 10 steps you can start doing today for clearer skin! I truly believe that glowing, healthy skin comes from a well balanced body inside and out, so these ten steps will help you to achieve your most beautiful skin yet! - Exercise and make time to unwind.
Keeping up on excercising is crucial because it reduces your stress hormones. Too much tension will lead to spiked hormone levels, which can increase breakouts. Try exercising 3-5 times per week, and find a time each day to relax and unwind, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. (Coffee can actually spike your stress hormone as well, so if you can give up the addiction even for a month your skin will be sure to thank you.)
- Eat a well balanced diet, filled with antioxidants and proper nutrition.
What you put on the inside of your body will reflect on the outside. Sugar is the leading cause of acne because it allows bacteria to form quickly. Eliminate sugar from your diet and watch how your skin responds! Easier said than done of course, so balance is key here. - Cleanse your skin morning and night.
Often people will skip the morning because they figure if you wash your skin at night, it will still be clean by morning. Your skin actually sloughs off dead skin cells at night, so by morning it’s crucial to cleanse skin again. - Use clean makeup brushes.
I’ve mentioned this before, but having clean makeup brushes is key! It is so important, I can always tell if I’ve gone too long without washing them because it’s an instant breakout for me. Especially if you use liquid foundation, it’s best to wash them once a week, and every 2-3 weeks for powder brushes.
- Stay properly hydrated.
Water helps to flush out toxins, so without proper hydration your skin won’t be able to detox, leaving you with breakouts and clogged pores. Drinking plenty of water will also give you a healthy glow!
- Get enough sleep.
Sleep deprivation has scary consequences on our bodies, and skin prone to breakouts is one of them! Did you know that sleep deprivation runs rampant in America? Sleep is vital and allows our bodies to properly reset and recharge, so depriving your body of that cutting it short of healing, and proper rejuvenation!
- Wash your pillowcases & sheets once a week or every two weeks.
Remember those dead skin cells I mentioned previously that your body sheds at night? Yeah, you’ll definitely want to wash those off a few times a month to get rid of the dirt and other yuckiness that gets left behind!
- Exfoliate 1-2 times per week.
Exfoliating gives your skin that extra bit of life it needs from time to time! My favorite is this one from Tula, because it’s gentle on your skin but also does the work that a good exfoliant should!
- Sanitize your phone.
Research shows that our smartphones can carry more bacteria than toilet seats. YUCK! Sharing phones with someone can actually be compared to sneezing on someone. Sanitize your phone at least once a day to keep your skin from breakouts.
- Munch on mixed nuts.
Nuts are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and high quality oils which aid in all sorts of skin conditions, inflammation, elasticity, and breakouts to name a few. Different nuts have different healing components, so a handful of mixed nuts each day will do the job.
